Jordan Williams Signs With Poland

With the NBA lockout still going strong with no sight in end, NBA players are finding places overseas to weather out the storm back in the United States.  The latest player to make the transition is second – round pick Jordan Williams, a former New Jersey Net.  Jordan’s agent made the announcement over the weekend on Twitter that he will be playing for the Polish team Zastal Zielona Gora .  This decision will make Williams the forth Net to go this route during the lockout.  Deron Williams is now in Turkey, Jordan Farmar is in Israel and Sundiata Gaines has chosen Georgia.

This was a dicey move for Williams because he is lacking the security of a NBA contract if an injury should occur unlike many of the other players that have chosen to play elsewhere during the lockout.  Just this past weekend two NBA players were injured during games abroad – Andrei Kirilenko of CSKA Moscow and J.R. Smith of Zhejiang Golden Bulls.  There is however an out clause in his contract with Poland that will let him come back to the NBA if the lockout ends.

Andy Miller, Williams’ agent stated “It’s a terrific opportunity for Jordan to compete against quality players and to continue to play and grow as an NBA player”.  Gani Lawal, another client of Andy Miller, is presently playing for the Polish team Zastal Zielona Gora.  Andy Miller has further commented saying “We have a track record with [the team], and they have treated Gani well. This was a proactive move. It’s a win-win for both sides.”.
